Our Soteria in the Pub events began in December, 2012 when we were privileged to welcome Robert Whitaker (Mad in America). Since then, we have held numerous events and these are now held regularly at The Brunswick in Holland Road, Hove. Past speakers have included Dr. Joanna Moncrieff (Psychiatrist, researcher, author and co-chair of The Critical Psychiatry Network), James Davies (Psychotherapist and author), Dr. Bob Johnson (Consultant Psychiatrist), Nick Putman (Open Dialogue UK), Dr. Lucy Johnstone (Consultant Clinical Psychologist) and Isabel Clarke (Spiritual Crisis Network). These evenings are always popular, and are attended by a diversity of people with different experiences who include professionals, those with lived experience, carers and others who have a shared interest in finding out about current developments and improving the provision of support for those experiencing “psychosis”. The events, which usually comprise a speaker or panel of speakers followed by audience questions, are informative, stimulating and enjoyable, sometimes provocative, often emotional, but always thought-provoking.
